The Officers and Members of the Central Volunteer Fire Company would like to send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Associate Member Linda Salim, who passed away last week. Linda was the wife of our Treasurer Louis (Jim) Salim, and mother of Firefighter Matt Salim. Please keep Linda’s family in your prayers during their time of sorrow.
Just after 5am this morning, the structure assignment was transmitted for a report of flames and smoke coming from the apartment above the Trail View on Industry Road in 145’s district. 140 Assistant 2 (Michaels) arrived within minutes of dispatch and confirmed the working fire dispatch. 145EN was first arriving, followed by 147EN. 147EN established a water supply and began assisting with suppression activities. This morning, the #CentralVolunteers were alerted to assist the Elizabeth Township Fire Department with a tree down on wires, that subsequently started a small brush fire. The Attack and Engine assisted with suppression and overhaul. While on this incident, the Rescue was alerted for a vehicle crash on Hayden Boulevard near the GetGo. That call was quickly cancelled when police units found no crash in the area.
It is with deep regret that we must announce that the upcoming Grand Central Train Show scheduled for September 2020 has been postponed until January 2021 (tentatively) due to the #COVID19 situation. We are sad to have to have come to this decision, considering this is one of our main fundraising activities during the year, but the safety of our vendors, patrons, and members is of the utmost importance. Just after 03:30hrs, the first alarm was transmitted for reports of a fire at the Buena Vista Pool on Styche Street in the Buena Vista section of the Township. 140AST1 arrived and confirmed a working fire in the locker room/restroom building with fire throughout. The fire was under control within 45 minutes. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Allegheny County Fire Marshal.
Today, 147 Rescue and Squad underwent our tri-annual inspection by EMS West in order to recertify our Quick Response Service licensure. This inspection is held every three years and involves on site inspection of our basic life support medical equipment, as well as ensuring our roster of medically trained personnel is up to date. Yesterday evening, the #EngineCompany responded on the 1st alarm to Calhoun Road in Lincoln Borough for a reported structure fire. Police arrived on scene and confirmed a working fire. 147 Engine assisted with suppression operations and overhaul. This afternoon, the 1st Alarm was transmitted for a reported shed on fire on Hillview Drive in the first due. Upon marking on the air, 147 Station reported a header visible from the firehouse. EMS units arrived and confirmed a working fire behind a residence. 142 Truck was first arriving and stretched on the fire, with 147 Engine quickly behind to assist with suppression and utility control. 147 Engine was dispatched on the 1st alarm to a report of a commercial structure fire with explosions inside the building in the 2200 Block of Lincoln Boulevard. First arriving units confirmed a working fire dispatch, and began making an attack on the fire. Units found an excavator on fire inside a large garage/warehouse type building. Crews from 147 Engine assisted with checking for extension in the 2nd floor offices of the structure. Units remained on scene for about an hour.
